What are the Differences Between Masks for COVID-19?

Staying healthy is more important than ever in the time of COVID-19. In fact, to help curb the spread of this incredibly contagious virus, many states across the nation are requiring citizens to wear masks anytime they go into a public place. You may have heard, though, that not all masks for COVID-19 are created equal. It’s important to understand the differences in these masks before you run out and purchase your first order – or, more likely right now, click the “Add to Cart” button. This guide can help you select the best masks for you and your employees!

Cloth Masks

Right now, many people are having a hard time getting their hands on surgical or N95 masks. Because of this, there has been a strong uptick of people sewing cloth masks at home, generally using cotton quilt fabric.

Although these masks are better than nothing, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, they aren’t ideal for blocking virus transmission. In fact, wearing one of these masks does more for the people around you than it does for you. If you have a cough or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, wearing this type of mask can help contain your germs.

However, if you can get your hands on a better mask, it’s highly recommended since these are usually about ½ as effective as a surgical mask.

Surgical Masks

Surgical masks are essentially disposable versions of reusable cloth masks. They work similarly in that they protect other people from the germs of the wearer. While these masks work twice as well as cloth masks, they still don’t stand up to viruses like COVID-19 very well.

There are three different ratings for surgical masks, depending on risk of exposure to bodily fluids. If you only have access to surgical masks during this pandemic, you’ll want to go with the highest level of protection to avoid spreading this virus.

Respirators

By far, the most ideal mask for preventing the spread of COVID-19 is a respirator. These types of masks come in a variety of standards. The most common ones you’ll hear about in reference to the novel coronavirus, though, are N95, KN95, and FFP.

N95 and KN95 Masks

N95 and KN95 masks are equally protective. The only real difference is that KN95 is the Chinese standard for respirators as opposed to American standards. The important part is that they both block about 95% of airborne particles, significantly reducing your chances of catching COVID-19. These are the types of masks that most medical professionals are using right now.

FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3

Of these masks, FFP3 masks have the top filtration rating, preventing up to 99% of particles from breaking through the barrier. FFP2 are similar to N95 and KN95 masks with a 94% filtration rate.

Three Popular Types of Umbrellas for April Showers

April showers bring May flowers! This adage has never felt truer than this year. We’ve experienced a lot of rain and storms at our home base in Maryland so far this month. Unless you live in a desert or part of the world that doesn’t get a lot of rain, an umbrella is one of the most important accessories for spring. We’re sharing three of our favorite types of umbrellas for surviving April showers below.

Economy Umbrellas

When you need to just grab and go, economy umbrellas are the best option. These umbrellas shrink down small enough to fit in a cloth sleeve. The sleeve makes it possible to quickly pop the umbrella back in your purse or bag even after you’ve used it.

Generally, these umbrellas don’t open super wide so they may not be great for an extended walk on a rainy day. However, if you just need to make a quick run from the parking lot into the grocery store or office, this is the ideal umbrella for you. These are also often the most affordable umbrella option.

Inversion Umbrellas

One type of umbrella that you don’t see often is an inversion umbrella. These umbrellas are both practical and fun. Being able to turn the umbrella inside out makes it easier to avoid getting wet when you close it and to dry it off before heading inside.

Additionally, these often come in two-tone shades. Having a pop of color on the underside is a fun surprise and can brighten up a rainy day. For businesses, this also gives you a place to really show off your brand colors.

Golf Umbrellas

When you need an umbrella that’s going to give you a lot of coverage for an extended time in the rain or sun, a golf umbrella is going to be your best bet. These umbrellas cover a large area and often come with a wind vented canopy as well.

Not only do golf umbrellas provide a large protective area, but they’re also aesthetically pleasing. These large umbrellas can be one or two-toned, and they offer a lot of opportunity for customization. Golf umbrellas can help brands showcase their colors – and since they’re often used at large outdoor events, they’re likely to get a lot of visibility.

Branding Various Types of Umbrellas

Regardless of which type of umbrella you choose for an employee or client gift, you can place your company’s stamp on it by adding a logo and your brand colors. You have a variety of options to choose from when it comes to umbrella promotional products. Skylight can help you choose the perfect one for your business’ needs.

In fact, one of the vendors that we work with even provides an app for the end user to download that lets them know if there’s more than a 50% chance for rain. They’ll get a push notification to their phone or tablet saying, “It’s supposed to rain today. Don’t forget your (insert your brand here) umbrella!”

Our expert team of promo product specialists will guide you through the process from beginning to end so you can create a one of a kind promotional gift. We’ve been around since 1977 and pride ourselves on delivering personalized, quality service.

Great Gifts for Admin Professionals Day

If you have a great administrative assistant or receptionist, you already know exactly how important they are to your business. They’re often the first point of contact for clients and future employees. Plus, they handle all the little things that keep your business running smoothly.

April 22nd is Admin Professional’s Day – a day to appreciate that special person in your office who keeps everyone on track. Don’t let it pass without showing them how much you value their work. Below are a few great gifts for Admin Professional’s Day.

Coffee and Mug

Is there anything better than a good cup of coffee in the morning? We didn’t think so. There are dozens of options when it comes to gifting coffee. You could always go the gift card route and hook them up with a couple cups at their favorite local or chain coffee shop.

Another great option is a customized mug with something that you know they love – a sports team, TV show, movie – you name it. You can choose from a wide variety of mugs, including traditional coffee mugs and double-walled travel tumblers.

Don’t forget to include a bag of coffee or gift set of pods with it, though. After all, what’s the point of a mug if you can’t put coffee in it?

Snack Gift Set

Snacks keep us all going through the day. Finding just the right one as a gift for Admin Professional’s Day is a great way to say “thank you.”

Some of our favorites at Skylight include:

  • Chocolate – Eating a piece of chocolate can feel like a small break in an otherwise crazy day. This Godiva set comes with a customizable coffee tumbler so you can get the best of both worlds.
  • Charcuterie – Meats, cheeses, and condiments make for the perfect snack-to-share. These types of gift sets range anywhere from a couple blocks of cheese and a sausage to a full-blown set with nuts, jams, and fruit.
  • Wine or champagne – If your company culture is a little more relaxed, a wine or champagne box could be in order as a great gift for Admin Professional’s Day. This gift includes a bottle of wine of your choice and two wine tumblers. Pairs great with cheese.

Company Watch

A company watch is a classic gift. Organization have been giving these to valued employees for decades as a token of appreciation. The difference today is that you can choose from a variety of watches, from sporty and casual to luxurious and formal.

You could even go all out and get a smartwatch for your administrative professional. These watches can track heartrate, deliver calendar reminders, and sync with your phone for text messages and phone calls.
